What is a WiFi QR code?

A WiFi QR code stores the information needed to join a wireless network: the network name (SSID), security type, password and, if needed, whether the network is hidden. A compatible phone can read this information and offer to connect without the user typing the password manually.

This is useful at home, in offices, cafés, hotels, rentals, events and anywhere you want to make WiFi access easier.

03

Create a QR code for a WiFi password

Enter the SSID and password exactly as they are configured on the network. The generator escapes special characters so names and passwords containing punctuation are encoded correctly. For WPA, WPA2 and WPA3 personal networks, choose the WPA option.

If the network has no password, select “No password”. For a hidden SSID, enable “Hidden network” before generating the code.

04

Is a WiFi QR code safe?

A WiFi QR code is convenient, but it is not encryption. The network credentials are encoded inside the QR code and can be read by someone who has access to it. Share or print the code only where it is appropriate to share the WiFi password.

This generator processes the data locally in your browser. Your SSID and password are not submitted to createwifiqrcode.com or an external API.

05

How to scan a WiFi QR code

On most recent iPhone and Android devices, open the camera and point it at the QR code. A WiFi connection prompt should appear. Tap it to join the network. Some devices may use a built-in QR scanner instead.

Before printing many copies, test the final QR code on at least one target device. Keep enough white space around the code and use strong contrast between the QR color and background.

FAQ

How do I create a QR code for WiFi?

Enter the WiFi network name, password and security type, then select Generate QR Code. Test the result with a phone and download it as PNG or SVG.

Can I create a WiFi QR code for free?

Yes. The generator is free to use and does not require an account.

Does a WiFi QR code contain the password?

Yes. If the network uses a password, the credentials are encoded in the QR data. Anyone who can decode the QR code may be able to read them.

Can I make a WiFi QR code without a password?

Yes. Choose “No password” for an open network and generate the code without entering a password.

Does a WiFi QR code work on iPhone and Android?

Most modern iPhone and Android devices support WiFi QR codes through the camera or built-in QR scanner, although behavior can vary by device and operating system version.

Can I create a QR code for a hidden WiFi network?

Yes. Enable the Hidden network option so the QR code includes that setting.

Do WiFi QR codes expire?

The QR code itself does not expire. It stops working if you change the network name, password or other connection settings.

Is my WiFi password uploaded to a server?

No. On this site the QR code is generated locally in your browser, so the WiFi details do not need to be sent to our server.
